Assorted Set of 5 Vintage Japanese Scissors "Tataki Nomi" 15, 21, 30, 42, 48mm
This quintet of Japanese scissors consists of "Tataki Nomi" with widths of 15, 21, 30, 42 and 48mm. They have a length of 295mm. These are new and vintage tools. They are directly imported from Japan. They were produced in the city of Miki, famous for its tools. The Ura (shape on the back of the iron) are very flat. These are vintage scissors from the 80s, the 48mm is from the Oyama brand.
The irons are made of hand-forged, two-ply high-carbon steel, there is a thick layer of hard steel (a guarantee of quality). There is a fine mark on the irons. They are made of white steel.
These "Tataki Nomi" (timber chisel in English) are similar to our (longer) carpenter's chisels, thicker and longer than the small "Oire Nomi" popular with Westerners. These chisels are made to withstand much more impact during work. They are perfectly suited for making mortises on frames, but also for furniture with hardwoods such as oak (plan for a slight change in bevel angle).
Like all new scissors, sharpening is required. The ferrule will also need to be adjusted (very simple to do). First, you need to cut (crush with a hammer) the handle a little more so that the ferrule leaves 2 to 3mm of the handle protruding. Then, simply wet the end of the wooden handle and hit it with a hammer (using its edge) concentrically so as to push the wood around the ferrule. Yes, manufacturers generally roughly sharpen their products to save time. In Japan, it is always up to the purchaser of the tool to finalize and adapt the tool to their own use, it is a philosophy of the tool...
With these tools, you can discover Japanese tools. For cabinetmakers, sculptors, carpenters, or simply DIY enthusiasts.
