These drill bits are suitable for European soft and hard woods, many types of plastics such as acrylic, ABS, and PVC, as well as hard rubber and bamboo. The manufacturer, STAR-M, designates it as a bamboo drill bit because bamboo is very hard, silica-rich, and very difficult to drill without splintering.

This drill bit is the perfect combination of a twist drill and an auger bit. The spur cutters score the edge of the hole very cleanly, while the two curved main blades gain depth quickly, even with little pressure. Straight blades penetrate wood head-on, whereas curved blades—like those on this drill bit—do so more gently because they do not engage across the entire width of the blade immediately. This results in a smoother surface. The pre-cutters simultaneously serve to limit the thickness of the chips, which therefore do not become too thick and remain uniform, resulting in a cleaner hole.
