This rare Japanese Hira Kanna plane has a 70mm wide blade. The plane is new and in excellent condition. The kanna is from the "Juho" brand and was made by the famous Usui Kengo, celebrated for his many high-class kannas.

Usui Kengo comes from a great lineage of blacksmiths whose production was based in Yoita, in the Echigo prefecture, highly renowned for its tool production. This plane was forged during the "Showa" period (the 70s). It features all the hallmarks of Usui Kengo's craftsmanship: a blade with an extremely fine forge (very easy to sharpen) and a beautiful finish on the back of the iron. The cross-shaped shaping marks show the hand-finished curve adjustments (more precisely, with a sen). This is an exceptional piece for a collector or an experienced user. One can no longer find Usui Kengo planes in such good condition (nearly new). At the time, these were the best available, so it should be understood that this type of kanna is a rare, high-end vintage find.

The Dai, the Japanese white oak block, is solid and in perfect condition; the sole is very smooth and perfectly straight. The Dai measures: length 291mm, width 87mm, height 36mm. It is truly superb, perfectly adjusted with a Tsutsumi (mouth reduction).

The blade is made of hand-forged, two-layer high-carbon steel. This kanna is from the finest forge and the Dai is perfectly executed. It is truly one of those great names that produced tools of the highest quality with the greatest care.

It is a plane of the highest quality for a user who wishes to own a little treasure. It can be used in cabinetmaking or carpentry. Like any new plane, there is a whole set of adjustments to be made before use. The plane can be delivered raw or adjusted according to your preference. I will provide all the advice for its proper use and maintenance.
