This set consists of seven Japanese woodblock carving chisels. It is composed of three flat chisels 12mm wide, one beveled chisel 9.5mm wide, and one bent chisel 9mm wide. Then there are three gouges: 9mm and 12mm Uchimaru (spoon), and one 9mm V-gouge. And finally, a 15mm spoon gouge, and a Yari kanna (the ancestor of the kanna), which is lance-shaped and 12mm at its widest point. These are new chisels (from the 80s) forged by "Yoshitada." They are imported directly from Japan. The handles are crafted with a lovely hammered pattern and are 5.5mm thick.
These are hand-forged, high-carbon, two-layer "white steel" chisels. It is difficult to find such a set of new, complete chisels in their original box... Furthermore, the few blacksmiths still in business only make this type of tool upon order.
These "Maru Nomi" chisels are 185mm long. They are suitable for carving work, engraving, or small projects. These "maru" shape chisels are dedicated to woodblock carving and Japanese printmaking. As with all new chisels, sharpening is required. In Japan, it is always up to the buyer to finalize and adapt the tool to their own use; it is the philosophy of the tool...
This type of set will delight a luthier or cabinetmaker for precision work.
With these tools, you can discover Japanese craftsmanship. For cabinetmakers, luthiers, sculptors, carpenters, or simply DIY enthusiasts.
