This Japanese "Hira Kanna" plane has a 70mm wide blade. The plane is vintage and almost new. It was forged by "Fukusaburo" during the "Showa" period (70s-80s). This plane celebrates Fukusaburo's nomination as a National Treasure. This is a (still existing) state promotion and preservation system that benefits the greatest craftsmen for their achievements. Today, this forging lineage continues under the name "Tsunesaburo," a very famous brand still active in Miki.
The Dai (wooden block) is made of Japanese white oak. It measures: length 289mm, width 86mm, height 35mm. The sole will need to be flattened and readjusted. Indeed, wood moves over time, so it will need to be flattened and tuned.
It was forged during the "Showa" period (70s). The blade is made of hand-forged bi-layer carbon steel. It is a super steel (special high-carbon blue steel). This kanna is of very high-quality forging. The blade is sharp, but as with any new blade, fine sharpening is recommended (6000-8000). The chipbreaker is original and also laminated. It is very beautiful with a very precise Urasuki.
It can be used in woodworking to prepare long and very flat surfaces. It can be used for joining panels, flattening a tabletop, or making long strips. It is the perfect kanna for deepening your experience with long Japanese planes.
Unlike European planes, Japanese planes are pulled rather than pushed.
With this tool, you will be able to discover Japanese tools. For cabinetmakers, luthiers, sculptors, carpenters, or simply hobbyists.
