The Dai (Japanese white oak block) is solid and in perfect condition, the sole is perfect, it is very straight. The Dai measures: length 273mm, width 81mm, height 34mm. It has a "Tsutsumi" it is a finish at the level of the light which allows to reduce it, it is a refinement of the "Daya" (Dai manufacturer). The selection of the flow of the oak is just perfect (very stable).

The plane was hand forged, the hammered finish is very fine and elegant; it is an old-fashioned coal forge with clay annealing. We can see it on the back of the iron at the demarcation line of this protection during annealing. The signature is magnificent, the counter-iron is very thick. This is a vintage kanna so it is impossible to say what steel it is made of (probably a white steel equivalent). It must date from the 80s (Showa period). The iron layer has been adjusted, I did it after more than six months of storage. This adjustment allows the blade to descend to the light correctly, with pressure but not too much to avoid deformation of the Dai. The bevel is set with an angle of 25 °.

This kanna is of a very good forge and the Dai is perfectly executed. It is indeed that class of craftsman who works with the greatest devotion to their forge. It is a very beautiful kanna of good quality.

This is the premium quality plane for experienced users or a user who would like to move up a level. It can be used in carpentry, on frame parts, or on panel work in cabinetmaking. The plane can be delivered raw or adjusted (sole) according to your convenience. J

Unlike European planes, Japanese planes are pulled instead of pushed. With this tool, you can discover Japanese tools. For collectors, cabinetmakers, sculptors, carpenters, or simply DIY enthusiasts.
