Japanese Scissors Quartet "Tataki Nomi" 9, 12, 15, 18mm "Nagaoke"
This quartet of Japanese scissors "Tataki Nomi" consists of widths of 9, 12, 15 and 17mm. They have a length of 290mm. These are new old stock tools. They are directly imported from Japan. These are vintage scissors from the 80s from the Nagaoke brand. The 17mm does not have the same brand as the others. It can happen that in the same range, a brand lets a blacksmith affix his brand.
The Ura (shape at the back of the iron) are very flat and perfectly made. The irons are made of hand-forged two-ply carbon steel, there is a thick layer of hard steel (a guarantee of quality). There is a fine mark on the irons. They are made of white steel #1.
These "Tataki Nomi" (timber chisel in English) are similar to our (longer) carpenter's chisels, thicker and longer than the small "Oire Nomi" popular with Westerners. These chisels are made to withstand much more impact during work. They are perfectly suited for making mortises on frames, but also for furniture with hardwoods such as oak (plan for a slight change in bevel angle).
The ferrules will need to be adjusted (very simple to do). First, you need to cut (crush with a hammer) the handle a little more so that the ferrule leaves 2 to 3mm of the handle protruding. Then, simply wet the end of the wooden handle and hit it with a hammer (using its edge) concentrically so as to push the wood around the ferrule. Sharpening is required.
With these tools, you can discover Japanese tools. For carpenters, sculptors, joiners, or simply DIY enthusiasts.
