This natural Japanese sharpening stone is coarse-grained. This type of stone is literally mined in Japan. Indeed, Japanese geology offers little treasures in terms of sharpening stones. This type of stone is difficult to find in Europe in this size and weight.
This Toishi or Aratoishi , which means coarse stone, works in a very homogeneous way to start a Kasumi (cloud finish).
It is a fairly soft coarse-grained water stone to start or correct an angle for your cutting edges, whether for tools or kitchen knives. The finish precedes that of a Kasumi, it is the right grit to start it. It is the equivalent of a 200 grit. It will be very interesting for your carbon tools and especially for your knives or kanna iron
The stone measures 72 X 58 X 224mm and weighs 2.190kg. It is a stone with a good thickness and very homogeneous which offers a fairly large surface for your knives and Japanese tools.
I recommend using a diamond plate to maintain the flatness of the surface of your stones.
It is a water stone so you need to wet it (using a spray). After use, let it dry naturally (avoid putting it in the sun). You need to use a diamond plate to maintain the flatness of the surface of your stones. It is preferable to glue it (epoxy resin) to a wooden support.
With this tool, you will be able to discover Japanese tools. For cabinet makers, sculptors, carpenters, cooks, or simply DIY enthusiasts.
