These pairs of Japanese bar clamps known as "Hatagane" are made of brass and can be used for light-duty applications. Hatagane always feature this typical shape: square-section jaws and square rods.
These models, ranging from 150 to 300mm in length, feature pin nuts that allow you to lock the jaws in place. They weigh between 55 and 105 grams each.
These clamps are useful not only for gluing, but also for securing workpieces during marking & sawing operations. It is this marking & sawing technique that can be seen in the book "Making Shoji" by Toshio Odate, THE reference for crafting Japanese sliding doors (Shoji = sliding door).
Since the throat depth is quite shallow, the rail rests directly on the workpiece, which facilitates precise clamping without slippage. This also helps to prevent distortion when alternating their position on the front and back of the piece.
In my opinion, these are the best clamps for box making.
