This pair of Japanese chisels called Ootsuki Nomi has widths of 24mm and 48mm and a length of 600mm. The handles are made of Japanese red oak. The Ootsuki Nomi always come in pairs with two different widths. These are new tools from the Sadamasa brand and directly imported from Japan.
The blades are made of high carbon two-layer hand-forged steel. The lamination has a good layer of hard steel that goes well up the sides of the blade. For chisels like the Ootsuki, you need to have an optimal sharpening because the chisels are simply pushed.
These Oosuki Nomi chisels (paring chisel in English) are used for finishing. They are very, very long 600mm (a oire nomi is 210mm for comparison) to facilitate finishing work on large-sized joints. It's the equivalent of our roughing chisels but here no striking, only finishing. These chisels are made to finish joints and only by pushing with the hand. These Ootsuki Nomi are really well calibrated for carpentry work, they are sufficiently heavy to drive the body without too much effort. They are dedicated to the fabrication of large elements on temples in Japan.
These are tools intended for carpenters only, you must already have an excellent knowledge of sharpening to use these tools correctly. I will give all the advice for their proper use.
They will be packed with the greatest care for a hassle-free shipment. With these tools, you will be able to discover Japanese tools. For carpenter, sculptor, joiner, or simply a DIYer.
