This pair of "Ootsuki Nomi" Japanese chisels comes in 24mm and 36mm widths with a length of 600mm. The handles are made of Japanese red oak. Ootsuki Nomi always come in pairs with two different widths. These are perfectly new tools, imported directly from Japan. They date back to the 90s and are from the "Meiho" brand. The Ura (back of the blade) is perfectly executed. It will be necessary to flatten the Ura, as is always the case with new chisels before use.
The blades are made of hand-forged, two-layer white steel with a high carbon content. The lamination features a good layer of hard steel that extends well up the sides of the blade. A very fine sharpening (8000-10000 grit) will be required. For chisels like these, optimal sharpening is essential because they are used purely by pushing.
These "Ootsuki Nomi" chisels (paring chisels) are used for finishing work. They are very, very long (an oire nomi is 210mm by comparison) to facilitate finishing work on large-scale joinery. They are equivalent to our firmers, but here there is no striking, only finishing. These chisels are made for finishing joints and are meant only to be pushed by hand. These Ootsuki Nomi are extremely well-calibrated for timber framing work; they are heavy enough to carry momentum without too much effort. They are dedicated to the construction of large elements for temples in Japan.
They will be packed with the utmost care for safe shipping.
These are tools intended for carpenters only; excellent sharpening skills are already required to use this tool correctly. I will provide all the advice for its proper use.
With these tools, you will be able to discover Japanese tools. For carpenters, sculptors, cabinetmakers, or simply handymen.
