This Japanese plane "Hira Kanna" has a 70mm wide blade with a very nice hammered finish. The plane is Vintage and new. It was made by the blacksmith "Soden" (no longer active). It is inscribed "sandaime" which means "third generation". It has the name Miya, which means "Temple", it is a plane made for the Temple frame. It is directly imported from Japan. The kanna comes in its original box.

The Dai (Japanese red oak block) is solid and in perfect condition, the sole is perfect, it is very straight. The Dai measures: length 273mm, width 86mm, height 36mm. It is really strong and heavy... The selection of the oak flow is just perfect (very stable). The Dai has a Tsutsumi, it is a small machining at the level of the light, this part left during machining allows to close the light a little more. The Dai has two ebony keys, one at the level of the light (which allows to reinforce the contact area in front of the light) and another inlaid in the sole. The bar holding the counter iron is square (rare today, this type of bar was used during the Showa period (50-70). The iron layer is already adjusted. It will be necessary to resurface the sole and adjust it.

The iron is made of hand-forged, two-layer carbon steel. It is a special steel. That is what blacksmiths call their more or less secret alloys. Most often it is a slight addition of tungsten which makes the hard steel more resistant to abrasion. The cutting edge works well. The hammered pattern and the signature are just magnificent, the counter-iron is also very well made, it is very thick and laminated. The counter-iron has been used very little.

This kanna is of excellent forge and the Dai is perfectly executed. It is indeed this class of craftsman who works with the greatest devotion their forge like Yamamoto, Mizuno, etc... It is a very beautiful kanna, very well preserved, this partly explains its price.

This is the premium quality plane for experienced users or a user who would like to move up to the next level. It can be used in carpentry, on frame parts, or on panel work in cabinetmaking. The plane can be delivered raw or adjusted (sole) according to its convenience. New planes always need a first series of adjustments before use. I will provide all the advice for its proper use and its good adjustments.

Unlike European planes, Japanese planes are pulled instead of pushed. With this tool, you can discover Japanese tools. For collectors, cabinetmakers, sculptors, carpenters, or simply DIY enthusiasts.
