This beautiful Japanese plane "Hira Kanna" has a 70mm wide blade. It is directly imported from Japan. The plane was forged by the famous "Sekikawa Seikichi" in Yoita City, Echigo Prefecture. He is a still active blacksmith who is renowned for his blue steel blades.

The Dai (Japanese white oak block) is solid and in perfect condition, the sole is perfect, it is very straight. The Dai measures: length 288mm, width 89mm, height 36mm. It is really strong and heavy... The selection of the oak flow is just perfect (very stable). The Dai has a Tsutsumi, it is a small machining at the level of the light, this part left during machining allows to close the light a little more. The iron layer has been adjusted. This adjustment allows the blade to go down to the light correctly, with pressure but not too much to avoid deformation of the Dai.

The iron is made of hand-forged bi-layer carbon steel. It is a blue steel number 1 (Blue Paper = Aogami). The cutting edge works very very well. The signature is magnificent and the patina on the polished finish is very beautiful. The counter-iron is very thick and laminated. This kanna is of excellent forge and the Dai is perfectly executed. This is indeed that class of craftsman who works with the greatest devotion to their forge like Yamamoto, Mizuno, etc.

This is a very beautiful kanna, very well preserved, which partly explains its price. It is almost ready to use. It will be necessary to sharpen the counter-iron and adjust the sole. This is the premium quality plane for experienced users or a user who would like to move up a level. It can be used in carpentry, on frame parts, or on panel work in cabinetmaking. The plane can be delivered raw or adjusted (sole) according to your convenience. New planes always need a first series of adjustments before use. I will provide all the advice for its proper use and adjustments.

Unlike European planes, Japanese planes are pulled instead of pushed. With this tool, you can discover Japanese tools. For carpenters, cabinetmakers, sculptors, joiners, or simply (advanced) DIY enthusiasts.
