Beautiful vintage Japanese scissors "Tataki Nomi" 15mm from the Master "Ouchi san"
This Japanese scissors "Tataki Nomi" has a width of 15mm and a length of 300mm. It is a tool directly imported from Japan. It is a scissors of the famous Shokunin (master) "Ouchi" of the city of Miki, with its symbol of the crossed double leaf, the scissors are authentic.
The iron is made of hand-forged two-layer carbon white steel (white steel 1), there is a thick layer of hard steel (a guarantee of quality). The Ura (shape at the back of the iron) has a slight egg shape (the easiest to sharpen). These "Tataki Nomi" (timber chisel in English) chisels are similar to our carpenter's chisels, thicker and longer than the small "Oire Nomi" popular with Westerners. These chisels are made to withstand much more impact during work. This one is quite heavy...
They are perfectly suited for making mortises on frames, but also for furniture with hardwoods such as oak (allow for a slight change in bevel angle).
Like any new chisel, sharpening is to be expected. I can do this service for 20€ more (in this width it is quite long). Here the iron is still sharp there has been a brief sharpening. Before the recent period the blacksmiths did not sharpen the chisels completely. The ferrule has been adjusted.
With this tool, you can discover Japanese tools. For carpenters, sculptors, joiners, or simply DIY enthusiasts.
