This Japanese chisel called "Tataki Nomi" has a width of 48mm and a length of 300mm. It is a new old stock tool directly imported from Japan from the brand "Suzuma".
The iron is made of hand-forged high-carbon bi-layer steel, there is a good layer of hard steel (a guarantee of quality for tataki nomi). The handle is very wide in a magnificent piece of Japanese red oak without any defects.
These "Tataki Nomi" chisels (timber chisel in English) are similar to our carpenter's chisels, thicker and longer than the small "Oire Nomi" popular with Westerners. These chisels are made to withstand much more impact during work. This one is quite heavy...
