Japanese saw "Dozuki" 240mm "Z-saw"
Japanese saw "Dozuki" 240mm "Z-saw"
This backsaw called "Dozuki" allows fine cuts across the grain of the wood. It is perfectly suited to hardwoods. It will be ideal for making small dovetails. It is directly imported from Japan.
Its tooth length is 240mm of useful tooth, 21 TPI (21 teeth per inch). It is an industrially produced saw from the Japanese brand GZ-saw. The teeth are impulse hardened. It is not sharpenable but has a replaceable blade.
This is a good saw to discover the use of Japanese saws which are thinner (3mm) than European saws. This type of saw must be used carefully so as not to make a curve and without making too many jolts. It is suitable (toothing) for hard woods (oak, walnut, ebony, etc.).
Unlike European saws, Japanese saws are pulled instead of pushed like our handsaws. This maneuverability allows for more precise and straighter cuts. By pulling only you stretch the blade which remains straight, no spring effect.
