This Japanese plane "Hira Kanna" has a 65mm wide blade. The plane is vintage and new. It was forged by "Hatsutomo" during the "Showa" period (70-80). It has the same characteristics as the great blacksmith "Hatsuhiro": an iron with a very fine forge (very practical for sharpening), the hammer marks in line on the back of the iron and a very well executed Ura.

The Dai (Japanese white oak block) is solid and in perfect condition, the sole is perfect, it is very straight. The Dai measures: length 273mm, width 80mm, height 32mm. The iron is made of hand-forged two-layer carbon steel. It is impossible to say what type of steel it is given the period. The cutting edge works well, but like any new plane, it is necessary to provide for a thorough sharpening.

The signature is sophisticated and graphically composed (just like Hatsuhiro) and the iron is very refined, the counter-iron is thick, laminated and also signed. This kanna is of a good forge, soft to the coal (rare today). The Dai is perfectly executed and it is signed. It is the good quality plane for experienced user or a user who would like to move to the next level. It can be used in carpentry, on frame parts, or on panel work in cabinetmaking.

The plane can be delivered raw or adjusted (the sole) according to its convenience (finishing or roughing). New planes always need a first series of adjustments before use. However, I have already made the majority of the adjustments (it takes quite a bit of time). This is also partly what explains its price (raw production kanna / ready-to-use kanna). I will provide all the advice for its proper use.

Unlike European planes, Japanese planes are pulled instead of pushed. With this tool, you can discover Japanese tools. For collectors, cabinetmakers, carpenters, joiners, or simply DIY enthusiasts.
