This vintage hand-forged saw is imported directly from Japan. It features the engraved signature of the blacksmith "Unokichi". Its blade length is 450mm (cutting area), the total length is 780mm, and the cutting depth at the center of the blade is approximately 80mm. Keep in mind that once the handle is fitted (400mm), it will be approximately 1180mm long. It is new and in perfect condition. It was produced in the city of Sano, north of Tokyo, near Mount Akagi.
This Temagorii is hand-forged. It is therefore sharpenable; I also sell files designed for this purpose (150mm). It has excellent edge retention thanks to its carbon steel. It is intended for advanced users, as it must be used correctly to avoid damage (no bending...). It is perfect for timber framing, for cutting large sections, and also for logging green wood. This saw is very high-performing for heavy sawing and breakdown work. It is supplied without a handle. Making a handle is a fairly simple task. I will provide advice on how to do so.
Unlike European saws, Japanese saws are pulled rather than pushed like our handsaws. This maneuverability allows for more precise and straighter cuts.
These saws should be lubricated (camellia oil) as often as possible and stored away from moisture. Also avoid working if your workshop is too cold (>10°C). I must specify that all these saws should only be used for cutting wood and not bamboo or plastics. (Yes, some people have tried...).
With this tool, you can discover Japanese craftsmanship. For cabinetmakers, carpenters, or simply advanced DIY enthusiasts.
