This pair of Japanese planes, known as Wakitori kanna (rabbet plane type, side-delivery), have an 18mm wide blade. They are vintage and in perfectly new condition. They have been matched (left-right) and are of the "Manshichi" brand.
The Dai (wooden blocks) are made of Japanese white oak. They are of very high quality and signed by the Daya (block maker). They measure 260mm long, 65mm high, and the sole is 19mm wide. It is worth noting that the sole can easily be refined to fit into narrower rabbets, down to 10mm.
The blades are made of hand-forged laminated carbon steel, and the brand's stamp is on the iron. Sharpening with a water stone (3000-6000 grit) is required. This type of tool is extremely practical for cleaning rabbets or joint corners. These are essential tools for making "Shoji," the very lightweight Japanese sliding doors.
Unlike European planes, Japanese planes are pulled rather than pushed.
With this tool, you can discover Japanese tools. For collectors, cabinetmakers, sculptors, carpenters, or simply (advanced) hobbyists.
