Vintage Japanese Scissors "Oire Nomi" 42mm Miki City
Vintage Japanese Scissors "Oire Nomi" 42mm Miki City
This vintage Japanese chisel "Oire Nomi" has a width of 42mm and a length of 220mm. It is a new tool and directly imported from Japan. The handle is made of Japanese boxwood (Gumi). The Ura (shape at the back of the iron) is perfectly executed. It is a chisel produced in the famous city of Miki, with its symbol of M. This city is still very recognized for its tools, particularly its chisels, the master Ouchi has his forge workshop there and the famous Kezuroukaï competition takes place there every year.
The iron is made of hand-forged, two-layer high-carbon steel, there is a thick layer of hard steel (a guarantee of quality). These "Oire Nomi" chisels are short. They are very pleasant for small cabinetmaking jobs. This one has the so-called "Mentori" (shape) with beveled edges.
This type of Japanese chisel is hard to find in this size and quality. It is a relic of a time when production was going well in Miki. Today, manufacturers can be counted on the fingers of one hand in Miki.
This is an excellent chisel to discover some very high-end things and to deepen the use of such chisels. Like all new chisels, fine sharpening is to be expected, as well as the adjustment of the ferrule. In Japan, it is always up to the purchaser of the tool to finalize and adapt the tool to his own use, it is a philosophy of the tool... I will provide all the advice to be able to obtain an adjustment.
With this tool, you can discover Japanese tools. For carpenters, cabinetmakers, sculptors or simply DIY enthusiasts.
